A good deed always warms the heart and leads the way

We were in Mumbai, pk and I with all our luggage trying to weave our way through the very very active, busy and complicated Mumbai local trains which transport millions every day.

We took a local train, only to be told by all the fellow passengers we were heading in the wrong direction! Lo..imagine that, 3 roll ons, hand bags and all and we were heading away from our destination instead of getting to our destination. All the helpful passengers, have us many a advice but we felt quite lost, tired in the heat of mid day and wondering why we do this to ourselves all the time…we seem to love taking to austere travel plans despite waiting cabs that could be comforting, relaxing alternatives to the same destination. Anyhow here we were and something had to be done.

So we decided to get down at the next station and find the platform and the train that could take us to where we actually wanted to go. Just as we were to disembark, another passenger who was getting down, motioned and said wait, let me take care of your bags. Swiftly he brought our bags down. But he didn’t stop there. Once on the platform, he looked at his watch and after a brief pause said let me help you to the platform you need to be at. Then deftly, he picked up the two heaviest bags and sprinted up the long stairs. Pk and I secretly so very grateful, followed behind as only two oldies can, slowly. Then the man sprinted down the next flight of stairs to the platform wherefrom we had to take our train. He deposited our bags close to where we could board the right coach. Bud his farewell to us but wait. He did one more sweet thing. As he was getting ready to head his way, he stopped by two young people, gesturing to us told them to help us.

I don’t know his name. It all happened in a matter of minutes. When he turned back on last time, I smiled gratefully but I felt way more than that. I felt my heart seeking blessings for him…again and again.

It is God’s gift…pure love, unselfish , sacrificing and giving…I pray I remember this kind act and feel ever grateful to this unknown person who stepped into my life… only for a minute, for whom I did nothing yet he did way more for me than many who I may have known for years.or even sacrificed much for.
